COVID-19 Response

by | Mar 31, 2020 | Uncategorized

As we face this global pandemic, our community’s safety is the number one priority for NW Indiana ER & Hospital, opening soon.

With the growing concern over COVID-19, there’s been a massive influx of news and data about the virus. It can be challenging to filter through all the information that’s out there. At NW Indiana ER & Hospital, we believe that being prepared is the best way to prevent panic and remain healthy.

Below are the COVID-19 prevention tips and guidelines, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Prevention

Because there are no current vaccines or treatments for COVID-19, the best defense in preventing the infection is to avoid exposure.

The CDC recommends avoiding all nonessential international travel for the time being. If you must travel, review the United States’ Travel Advisories before doing so.

Take the necessary precautions to prevent COVID-19 as you would other viruses, including:

  • Washing your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds (If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer)
  • Not touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
  • Avoiding close contact with people who are sick
  • Covering your cough or sneeze with a tissue
  • Cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces
  • Staying home and avoiding the public

Symptoms

Symptoms of COVID-19 can appear in as little as 2 days or as long as 14 days after exposure.

Signs of the virus include:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath

Those who believe they may have been exposed to COVID-19 or are experiencing the symptoms mentioned above should contact their primary healthcare provider.

Seek medical attention immediately if you develop these emergency warning signs:

  • Trouble breathing
  • Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
  • Confusion or inability to arouse
  • Bluish lips or face
